About Us
Drover's Ridge is located in the southern Black Hills just 13 miles from the town of Custer. Nestled at the end of a dead - end road, surrounded by the Black Hills National Forest on 2 sides, in a quiet little valley surrounded by absolutely breathtaking scenery and wildlife. My three daughters and myself take great pride in making each pet feel like family as they visit here.
Here at Drover's Ridge, our goal is to share our favorite things with those around us and support our local pet families in any way we can. We open our home and our hearts to the pets of our community to have a safe and peaceful place to be cared for and loved while their owners are away with the option to purchase some farm grown items.
During the spring/summer and part of fall we plan to have limited produce and fresh farm eggs available.
We also take great pride in producing top quality working Old English Sheepdogs with exceptional health and temperament. Our goal is to preserve the breed and their history by carefully selecting our dogs, fully health testing each candidate, educating our clients and to show their amazing abilities by training the OES to be working sheepdogs. OES are mostly known for their shaggy appearance, peek-a-boo hairdo and their teddy bear like gate. But did you know, they are also a very courageous breed with sweet kindliness, a watchful eye and a great intelligence. We have only a small, very limited, number of litters so be sure to ask about our waiting list!

We also offer grooming and boarding to our surrounding community. We welcome pets of all kinds! We welcome dogs, cats, birds, reptiles, horses, you name it, we'll watch it! Your loved ones will stay here with us, on our farm, as part of our family. Because we do not have a separate kennel set-ups we only offer a limited number of clients at a time so gets your dates reserved now! Because we want to respect our neighbor's privacy, visitation to our farm can only be done by appointment only and we do offer pickup/drop off services. Please note: At this time, grooming only appointments must be picked up and dropped off by our staff. We are trying to limit the hassle it will put on our neighbors as we build our future facility. Boarding and Daycare services can be dropped off and picked up by the pet owners with an appointment scheduled.

Hello! I am Brittany Johnson! I have 3 beautiful daughters and a small ranch. I have been a dog trainer since 2002 and became a behaviorist and CDT in 2007 while I did some grooming in between. I have been a vet tech and Search and Rescue handler and master trainer since 2015, until life decided to take me another path in 2024. I got my first OES in 2018 when I was training dogs for Search and Rescue and Detection work. That's when George, my first sheepie, made his way into my life and I was instantly blown away by his charm, kindness, intelligence, and his accuracy and willingness to work. Quickly he became my close working K9 partner and showed many that, while this breed may be not very well known, this breed is very much alive and capable to make great working dogs as well as family pets. I fell in love with the breed so much that I decided to do my part in preserving this breed and bringing them back to their roots.
I started Drover's Ridge in 2022 when I purchased my first breeding candidate, Miriam. I have always boarded pets, cared for ranches, helped groom pets over the years on the side and I always dreamed of having a luxury pet resort one day.
I have an extensive history and training in veterinary medicine, training obedience, behavior rehabilitation, nose detection work and man-trailing, aggressive and reactive counter conditioning and service dog training. I am working on getting droving introduced to our program.
I really love training K9s and volunteers as a K9 handler seeking lost people.
We have big things instore for the Drover's Ridge and our program and look forward to sharing that all with you in the future. Be sure to check our out "brighter future" page for more information!
